The Bogota Audiovisual Market recently announced the projects and contents that will participate in the most important audiovisual market in Colombia, to take place July 9-13 of this year. The BAM’s calls were kept open for almost two months and enjoyed a very high participation. After exhaustive curatorial work carried out by national and international juries, the BAM published detailed lists of the projects, companies, and people selected.
Quality and diversity were the main criteria employed in the selection process. Paula Zupnik, a jury member from Argentina and film content advisor for Latin America, stressed that this edition of BAM Screenings "presents films that are of a high quality, not only in their technical sophistication which is evidently increasing, but also with the pleasant surprise of debut feature films with very interesting scripts and stories. These are beautiful stories that present an authentic Colombia, both in the categories of documentary and fiction.” There will be thirteen films in the post-production or completed stage in this category. They will be projected privately for sales agents and festivals representatives that are interested in bringing the new harvest of Colombian cinema to the world. These are the selected titles >
The Videolibrary will feature 100 pieces of content representing the freshest Colombian audiovisual production. The selection includes eight feature films, 29 short films, 53 television series, and 10 web series. All accredited BAM attendees will be able to view these through the Festival Scope Pro platform from June 11 to October 31, 2018. See the entire list of selected content >
Twenty-eight young talents with fiction, animation, and documentary projects will arrive from different parts of the country, including capital cities, such as Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali, and smaller towns, such as Bello (Antioquia) and San Gil (Santander), to take part in the Bammers program. This educational space will bring them closer to the dynamics of an international audiovisual market and will also involve them in exclusive activities that will connect them to other industry actors. The Festival Workshop, organized by the Colombian Ministry of Culture at the BAM, will welcome eight festivals from various Colombian cities. In addition, six festivals from Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay will participate in this educational space for strengthening festivals. Organizers will also have the opportunity to reflect alongside national and international experts on the challenges they face in the film industry and other aspects of festival management. Twelve pre-selected scripts from the Colombian Film Fund`s fiction script competitions in 2016 and/or 2017 were chosen to participate in the BAM Stories category. Creators will participate in a program of activities designed for their projects and talent. See the selected scripts >
Finally, the market will present 28 film projects and 13 television projects in an advanced stage of development. These projects will have the opportunity to connect with potential co-producers, funds, and television channels. In this manner, the BAM continues to encourage international co-productions and strengthen the development of Colombian productions. There will also be five projects from Spain, which is the guest country of this ninth edition. See the entire list of selected projects >
Claudia Triana, Director of Proimágenes Colombia, stated: "The content chosen to be part of the BAM in 2018 has gone through an extremely exacting filter and is therefore of a very high quality. Besides that, the open calls and results were published earlier this year, which means that the prioritized international buyers and guests will be much more in line with the needs of the projects. With this, we aim to increase the number of partnerships and business agreements achieved."
The BAM is one of the most important audiovisual markets in Latin America, organized by the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce and Proimágenes Colombia, with the support of the Colombian Film Fund (FDC).
As the guest country for this year, Spain supports this edition through the Spanish Embassy in Colombia, the Spanish Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) and Acción Cultural Española through the Spain-Colombia Culture Focus, an ambitious initiative that seeks to bring the two countries closer and promote cultural exchanges between them.
As part of the Spain-Colombia Culture Focus, the BAM will host an important delegation of Spanish audiovisual professionals who will be in Bogota to explore the Colombian market and help strengthen cooperation between the nations for audiovisual production.
