Short film Screenings

The Screenings section presents the most recent novelties of national cinematography. This year, five fiction short films, including a short film for children, all in advanced post-production stages, are being shown in private screenings at festivals, funds, and markets, awaiting their upcoming release.

Harold OSPINA HINCAPIÉ

Colombia

Audiovisual producer and cultural ambassador. He has a Master’s in Audiovisual Writing from the Universidad del Magdalena. He has worked as a producer for film, television, and cinematographic events. He has also managed different cultural projects. He currently directs the Cine a la Calle Foundation and the International Short Film Festival Cine a la Calle. He is a university professor and advisor to the Secretariat of Culture of Pereira.

Patricia AYALA RUIZ

Colombia

Founder of Pathos Audiovisual. Director, producer, and screenwriter. Her debut, Mr. Ca, premiered on Visions Du Réel and had extensive festival coverage; the film won the Macondo Award for Best Colombian Documentary, among others. She also directed A Matter of Land. She is the conceptual director and transmedia scriptwriter for Reconstrucción and codirector of To Recompose, which was the Colombian winner for Doctv Latinoamérica 2017. Invited by Señal Colombia, she directed the documentary Mutis, which won the India Catalina Award in 2017. She is currently finishing Bridges Overt The Sea, a winning project of the FDC 2019 and the Ibermedia program.

España

SHe is a self-declared militant of short films. After more than 10 years at the helm of the leading Spanish production and distribution company, Banatu Filmak, and 20 years as director of the Humor en Corto Festival, he branched out as a consultant, collaborating with CSFF – China International New Media Shorts Film Festival, Emergente!, Foro de Coproducción de Cortometrajes (Spain), Abycine LANZA (Spain), and Defy Funding (USA). He is a professor at the UPV/EHU and belongs to the Spanish associations AIC, EPE/APV, and the international association SFC.

The time has come to execute the plan: Roberto takes out two guns, loads them, they take each other’s hands, bring them up to their mouths, close their eyes, and count to three...

Andrés’s shoe has a huge hole at the tip of his toes. It’s so big that his big toe looks like it wants to escape through it. Usually it wouldn’t bother him, but tomorrow is the school dance, and Mariana, the girl of his dreams, has insisted that she wants to dance with him. Andrés only has one day to come up with a solution to this problem and make sure he is dressed impeccably for the date he has waited so long for. He either repairs his only pair of shoes or gets some new ones.

Gerardo, an elderly farmer, has lost his faith after a recent massacre in his village. The memories haunt and consume him. Inés, his wife, believes that the only hope to save his soul is to bring home the church bell: God’s call. With the help of the priest and sacristan, they take the bell down and put it in a cart pulled by a donkey to begin a difficult Way of the Cross. The physical challenge is a metaphor for the spiritual journey, which will test their own faith when they have to face all of their doubts and fears.

Arnaldo is a 50-year-old skinny, black musician. He spends his days between odd jobs, Bohemia, and the presence of his thoughts. His days consist of songs and earning money so that his daughter, who lives elsewhere, can go and study in the city. Due to a lack of options, he is also determined to leave the island with the help of his friend Miguel, who tells him about the possibility of leaving by boat. Arnaldo looks out at the horizon, and although he has his doubts, the mysticism of the sea calls him and he decides to go, after leaving the only thing he has with Miguel.
